When we notice that our body starts to ache, or we notice a certain recurring pain when you move, we often think that it may be that we “slept funny” or have a trapped nerve. Over time may consider the possibility of seeing a chiropractor if the issue has not resolved. But at what point should you see a chiropractor? In this blog we will answer that question.

Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain and other joint pain surrounding this area can be caused by things such as trapping a nerve, sleeping in awkward positions or lifting heavy objects incorrectly. This can dramatically alter your short-term mobility and affect things such as your mood and alertness. If the issue is severe enough, it can result in you taking sick days if you are unable to work whilst dealing with the pain.
If you find yourself concerned with the level of pain from your lower back, struggling to cope with it on a daily basis, constantly taking pain relief tablet or if the pain has persists for more than 6 weeks, then we would recommend that you find yourself a local chiropractor. By manipulating the joints and muscles, you will find that mobility will return, and the pain should begin to ease.

Neck Muscle Pain

The majority of neck pain that people will experience at least once in their lives is “simple” or also known as “mechanical” neck pain. This type of neck pain can be caused through a number of different situations. Things such as poor posture, adding too much tension to the neck, sports injuries, falls or bumps and car accidents can all attribute to feeling pain within your neck.
Any of the above can lead to a few different symptoms that should be looked at. If you notice that you are feeling pins and needles, a tingling sensation, numbness or weakness in your arms then this can be a result of suffering from a neck injury.

If this is the case, then you should see a chiropractor if:
  1. Your neck pain (or the symptoms above) has not improved after a couple of days
  2. You cannot turn your head either left or right without severe stiffness or pain
  3. You are constantly taking pain relief medication to cope with the pain
  4. Your neck pain was caused by a car crash or the result of a sports injury or fall
  5. Your neck pain is more severe after waking up
  6. Your neck pain is affecting your daily living

Shoulder Pain

Seeing that the shoulder is the most mobile joint in the entire body, it can become very limiting when we experience pain or stiffness in this area. The shoulder houses many nerves, tendons bursa and other tissue which are susceptible to being irritated, which will result in pain around the shoulder area.

If you have noticed that the pain in your shoulder is limiting you in the following ways then it would be advised that you contact a local chiropractor:
  1. Preventing you from working
  2. Limiting you from opportunities due to pain in this area
  3. The pain has continued after 2 weeks without improvement
  4. Constantly taking pain relief medication to deal with the pain
  5. Intense pain
  6. Concern that the pain is not going to resolve itself
