Whatever the cause, having pain at the joints is never a good experience for anyone, and can severely impact day-to-day life. That’s why people are always looking for ways to ease the pain. A lot of research has gone into the field of joint pain, the results of the research have stated that there are various ways in which this pain can be eased. Here are the top ways to ease joint pain:
Therapy
There are a lot of therapy forms that have been found to be effective in relieving pain at the joints. The most common forms include cryotherapy (Ice Therapy) and Hydrotherapy. Ice Therapy works on the principle that cold temperatures reduce the swelling of tissues by reducing blood flow. To apply this, put an ice pack on the joint with the paint for 15 minutes of every hour throughout the day if you’re experiencing it for the first time. The following day apply the ice 4 or 5 times each for a period of 15 minutes. This is very helpful for relieving pain in the joints. Try to avoid ice burns by not placing the ice directly on your skin. Hydrotherapy works with warm water when you take a bath. This therapy is especially effective for knee and hip joint pains. Immerse the affected area in water and gently massage it. This will stimulate blood flow, thereby, relieving pain at the joint.
Massage
Joint pain in the knees and hips can effectively be eased by massaging. This can be done by yourself or by a professional. In case you decide to do it by yourself, use a topical menthol rub to massage the affected area. This helps ease the pain at the joint. It’s also important for you to remember that the direction of the strokes of a massage should always be towards the heart.
Medications
Some medications have long been found to be very effective in relieving joint pain. Medicines and painkillers, such as ibuprofen, have been proven to be great for easing such pain. Anti-inflammatory non-steroidal medications can also relieve the stiffness and swelling of joints. The other group of medication that’s effective for easing pain at the joints is muscle relaxants that have been prescribed as they reduce spasms of muscles.
Natural mixtures
Opinion varies on an individual basis, but natural herbal mixtures such as like herbal teas have been found by some people to be excellent in the prevention and alleviation of joint pains.
Exercise
Appropriate forms of physical exercises are also great for easing joint pains. However, the kind of exercise you do should be one that allows you to move within the limits of the pain. It shouldn’t cause further pain when you do it. In fact, sometimes the joint paints can be eased by simple stretching and minor exercises. Exercises also can make your joints more flexible and stronger, keeping off any potential pain.
