What Is A Chiropractor?

A chiropractor is a professional health care expert who typically focuses on helping people with any issues that are neuromuscular. A lot of the time, treatment focuses on fixing certain alignments of the body, therefore allowing it to function better.
One of the main focuses of chiropractors is spinal manipulation, however many also cover other areas such as postural exercises, ergonomics training, and exercise guidance.

Overall, they can offer different solutions and treatments, depending on what issue you may have. Below we will go through some popular issues, and what chiropractors may be able to offer (dependant on which clinic you visit).

How Can Chiropractors Benefit Your Health?

There are numerous ways in which chiropractors can help ease any pain or stiffness you may be experiencing. For instance, one of the most well known methods is quick and effective adjustments, however chiropractors are equipped with many other methods of treatment.

Another way in which chiropractors can help you is through gentler mending to your soft tissue, wherever your muscle tightness or pain may be originating from. Alternatively, you can benefit from chiropractic help is through completion of exercises suggested to you that are specific to your situation.

These exercises may look to increase your flexibility and strength in certain movements, helping you to fix the issue and prevent it from recurring in the future.

Treatments

Stretches

Carrying out regular stretching exercises can ensure that your body maintains good mobility, flexibility, and functionality. Stretching/postural exercises may be given to you even after an injury has healed. You will be walked through each exercise at the chiropractic clinic, ensuring that you can carry them out as desired.

Stretching exercises will probably be assigned to you to do in your own time to allow you to progress in your recovery without having to constantly visit a practice/clinic. It also helps to provide a sense of progression

Adjustment

Focusing on the alignment of the spine, chiropractic adjustments is where a specialist will apply a controlled, yet sudden movement to a spinal joint. This is done in an effort to help improve the spine’s motion, as well as your body’s overall function.

The most common issues which may require some form of adjustment are the following: headache(s), lower back pain and neck pain etc.

Soft Tissue Release

Although chiropractors are commonly known for adjustments, they can also carry out manual therapy to help remove any stiffness and tension in muscles. This then also improve the function of these soft tissues (muscles, tendons etc.) going forward. Some of the injuries which may benefit greatly from soft tissue mobilisation is tendinitis of the bicep, golfer’s elbow, strain or tear in the quadriceps and more.
